A different kind of pastor…

  • The Christian Science Sunday Bible Lesson-Sermon is not preached by a traditional ordained pastor but read from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
  • Two readers are elected from the church membership to serve as readers on a rotating basis. One reads citations from the Bible, and the other reader reads correlative citations from Science and Health.
  • The Bible citations are selected from both the Old and New Testaments

Sunday service order—similar to other Protestant services:

  • Opening hymn
  • Scriptural selection
  • Silent prayer followed by the Lord’s Prayer
  • Hymn
  • Brief announcements
  • Musical solo
  • Bible Lesson-Sermon (the largest part of the service)
  • Hymn
  • Reading of the “scientific statement of being” from the Christian Science textbook
  • Reading of I John 3:1-3
  • Benediction read from the Bible

Wednesday testimony meeting order…

  • Hymn
  • Reading of citations from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
  • Silent prayer followed by the Lord’s Prayer
  • Hymn
  • Voluntary remarks by anyone present about how Christ has touched their daily lives in some way
  • Hymn

Wednesday night testimony meetings are an opportunity for all participating to share insights and express gratitude for healings they have experienced through their growing understanding of Christian Science.
